Native American Heritage Association

Many Native American families suffer from food insecurity. The Native American Heritage Association (NAHA), with the help of generous donors and nonprofit organizations, is committed to fighting hunger with emergency food supplies and basic life necessities. By reading below, you’ll learn all about this nonprofit and how being a member of WIN Warehouse helps them make an even greater impact.

Their Mission

Since 1993, the Native American Heritage Association has been helping those in need. David Myers started the nonprofit organization after seeing the extremely poor conditions Native Americans have to cope with on a daily basis.

Their mission is to help as many Native American families as possible by providing basic life necessities and programs. Over the years, they have provided much-needed hope and dignity to many Native American families living on reservations in South Dakota and Wyoming.

Let’s take a look at the many programs they offer.

  • Clothing Give Away Program – collects donations of clothing, shoes, household, and personal care items from around the country.
  • Emergency Food Relief – receives healthy, nutritious food to deliver to reservations in partnership with Feeding America®.
  • Emergency Voucher Program – covers the cost of food, medicine, heating fuel, and gasoline for transportation.
  • Holiday Program – gives Native American families turkeys for Thanksgiving and Christmas and hams for Easter.
  • Operation Winter Rescue – supplies heating stoves and propane fuel to hundreds of families on the Rosebud and Pine Ridge Reservations who have no heat in their homes.
  • Toy Program – gives toys to Native American children during the Christmas holiday to brighten their spirits.
  • Winter Life-Guard Program – gives Native American families on reservations a $75 purchase order to buy winter clothes for their children.

WIN Warehouse’s Impact

NAHA became a WIN member in 2016 and, through this collaboration, has secured essential resources for the communities they serve. Over the years, NAHA has placed truckloads of orders. They’ve picked up:

  • coats and jackets,
  • bulk maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) supplies,
  • bulk paper pallets, and
  • most recently, a truckload of air purifiers.

States with the coldest winters include South Dakota and Wyoming, which makes ensuring coats and jackets are provided to families especially important. During this time of year, WIN Warehouse helps NAHA ensure Native American families have the gear they need to stay safe and warm.
