In East St. Louis, Illinois, Lansdowne UP(opens in new tab) is investing in the future of the Lansdowne neighborhood through property improvements, workforce development, housing, youth opportunities, and more. Through each of these efforts, the organization is working to create lasting opportunities for the people who call the neighborhood home.
Their Mission
Lansdowne UP’s mission is to transform the Lansdowne neighborhood of East St. Louis into a thriving community, one person and one property at a time.
In 2008, the East St. Louis Wrestling Club brought youth wrestling to the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center. Five years later, the club launched Lawns for Learning, where coaches and kids work together to clear and mow overgrown lots while developing job skills. These efforts grew, and Lansdowne UP became a separate nonprofit in 2021.
Today, Lansdowne UP employs more than 20 people year-round. The organization is also expanding housing opportunities through Lansdowne Park, a new 20-home development in the neighborhood with a mix of two-story and ranch-style houses.
