At WIN Warehouse, we’re inspired every day by the incredible work our members are doing in their communities. One of those members, High Desert Second Chance, in California, has been working to create opportunities for individuals and families to thrive. Since joining WIN, they’ve become an example of how nonprofits can stretch resources and maximize impact.
Their Mission
High Desert Second Chance, founded in 2014, is a food bank serving the High Desert region in California. Each week, its Emergency Food Pantry operates Monday through Thursday, assisting 150 to 200 families, while its Open Market Food Distribution on Saturdays gives approximately 500 families fresh, dry, and frozen groceries.
The nonprofit also distributes USDA Commodities on the last Thursday of each month, except on major holidays. USDA commodities, food items that the USDA purchases to support domestic agriculture while providing nutritional assistance to programs, can include grains, proteins, fruits, vegetables, and dairy.
While food distribution is at the core of its work, High Desert Second Chance further supports the community by:
- Helping families with utility bills.
- Connecting individuals with healthcare resources through the nonprofit Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP).
- Hosting community events for holidays like Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
WIN Warehouse’s Impact
Since becoming a WIN member in October 2025, High Desert Second Chance has put various items to good use. They recently received a case of 1,034 pieces of jewelry, just in time for Mother’s Day. The collection included rings, earrings, necklaces, charms, pendants, and bracelets.
- Rings: Stackable bands, wave and infinity designs, and gemstone styles such as emerald, ruby, quartz, onyx, and jade in sizes 4 to 10.
- Earrings: Stud and drop styles, including themed designs like wings, daisies, and wave patterns, along with gemstones such as garnet, turquoise, and onyx.
- Necklaces: A mix of layering pieces and statement styles, including infinity, wave, talon, and gemstone designs.
- Charms and Pendants: Decorative and novelty pieces inspired by animals and nature, along with diamond-accented styles in various metal finishes.
- Bracelets: Beaded gemstone styles in assorted sizes.
