Their Mission
The American Legion, chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919, is the nation’s largest wartime veterans service organization. They’re committed to mentoring youth and sponsoring programs in communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and serving fellow servicemembers and veterans.
Supporting Scouting America
Since the beginning, American Legion posts have supported local Scouting America units as independent community partners. It was announced at the first national convention in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Resolution No. 87 affirmed, “The American Legion heartily commends the principles and achievement of the Boy Scouts and recommends that each post assist the Scout troops in its community in whatever manner practical.”
While scouting is not an official program of The American Legion, its commitment to supporting young people has remained steadfast for more than a century. Today, American Legion posts sponsor over 2,500 Scouting America units nationwide.

American Legion Post 297 became a WIN member in 2016, and Tommy Williams began placing orders on behalf of Scouting America units in 2020. Over the years, they have obtained:
